Hypnosis is an altered but completely natural heightened learning state and through hypnotherapy you can learn to access more of your subconscious mind for therapeutic purposes to transform memorised behaviours, trapped emotions or hard-wired beliefs, attitudes and emotional reactions. While you are relaxed the right-hand side of the brain which is associated with imagination becomes very active and can be guided to change your perceptions which can then help you meet most psychological challenges. If you have specific questions about your specific issue then click 'Contact Us' on this page.

Hypnotherapy is effective for most people, and unlike other talking therapies, the results are on the whole more long-lasting. This is because, essentially, the subconscious re-learns how to experience letting go of negative emotions which the body may have been conditioned to in the past and learns to outgrow and create new neurological pathways to future wanted behaviours and emotions which can help someone to achieve new goals and intentions for a better future. In a very small number of cases, where the client is unable to respond, Cumbria Hypnosis offers the exclusive assurance that treatment will not proceed if you have been deemed unsuitable for this process during the initial consultation.

Everyone responds to Hypnotherapy and the experience of Hypnosis differently, just as people do to any form of therapy. Some people can recognise instant change while for others it may take longer. but even when it feels that nothing at all has actually happened, you may be surprised at just how much has changed, and this will be noticed in subtle shifts in perception and sense of wellbeing especially when you look back at how you were before you started your hypnotherapy journey. The key is not to have any firm preconceptions and to allow time for the process to work. People who tend to 'try' therapy or want someone to 'fix' them, unfortunately will not achieve long term results and so are not advised to engage with this process.

The science of Hypnosis has been around for literally centuries but is only now being recognised by medical practitioners in the National Health Service, where it is being successfully used to control a full range of conditions including navigating a cancer diagnosis and all the associated emotional stress. Millions of people are using hypnosis and hypnotherapy to stop smoking, lose weight, and to conquer their fears, such as fear of flying. Positive thoughts result in positive re-actions, which bring positive success and achievement. Hypnosis accesses the creative unconscious part of your mind which makes up 95% of our awareness, where there is no challenge or resistance to new ideas and concepts, and where the mind becomes receptive and responsive in such a way that it can absorb these new ideas and concepts quickly and easily without editing. For this reason the treatment can be much more effective, and produces longer lasting results than with many other alternative forms of therapy.

The deep relaxation process will distract the conscious part of your mind, and while this happens, positive suggestions are made directly into the unconscious part of your mind. This is where the ‘magic’ really happens because once your unconscious mind is open, it is much more receptive to the information it needs to change the unwanted experience or behaviour you want to stop or change, helping to activate the changes, such as feeling more self-confident, determined to lose weight, control a pain or fear, relieving stress or to outgrow your smoking habit.

When Hypnotherapy is used for improving health, it can work positively on the way the body functions. Whilst in a state of hypnosis, it is possible to cause blood to flow better, veins to dilate, heart rate to reduce, and white blood cells counts to increase, and thus improving the immune system.

For each treatment to be most effective you are not recommended to have more than one treatment at a time when dealing with your particular issue. If at all in doubt then simply contact us directly for more information

Most definitely YES. Hypnosis is often misunderstood thanks to stage shows and Hollywood films. You cannot be made to do anything you do not want to and you will never be 'under the influence' of the hypnotherapist. You are always aware. Hypnosis can be broken at any time, you will still be able to hear everything, respond to others and be fully conscious to attend to anything that you need to. Hypnosis is NOT mind control, rather more control over your own mind and body.

Falling asleep is a natural symptom of being extra relaxed but you are always aware  and your subconscious mind will have  absorbed what it needs to. Many people liken the experience to dozing in front of the TV with their eyes closed. You know exactly what’s on and what’s going on but you are so relaxed you just let your mind drift. At no point do you 'go under' although you may feel like you have relaxed so deeply you may feel you have had a short sleep. This isn't always the case.
